I don't know either. Whenever we went to doctor for Cold/Running nose for my little one (1yr) the only thing they prescribed was amoxycicyllyn (Not sure of spelling) which is an anti-biotic. That seems to be working for few days and he was back to square 1. Apart from that he gobbled 2-3 bottles of tylenol cold :( -- This is when we went to a homeopath and he got cured in 8 days. My son is still on medication (Hai.. There are no side effects) and he is doing well as of now...

There is one called "Similasan" you could try. It is available at Long's Drugs over the counter. I had bought this about 7 or 8 months back from the Longs at Metro Center plaza and it did render relief to me. This is safe and effective on kids as well.

I've always used Pulsatilla for ear infections for my children. It
always works and they've never been on antibiotics. Your best bet is to
get a 1M dilution of Pulsatilla and give 3 doses (3-5 capsules each
dose) over a 24 hour period. The medicine must be given 20 minutes
before or after food or drink.

There may be places on the West coast that you can purchase it.

be careful about homeo medicine you get here. one of my wif'es colleague's kid got some serious side effects from homeo medicine. it is caused by over dosage and many of the doc's here are not qualified. i wanted to post this inthe group but getting some error, may be I need to subscribe.
For my kids, homepathic medicine seems to help in prevention.
Whenever they start getting a cold, we start them off on
homeopathic over the counter cold medicine (bought at whole
foods, several brands available). In the last couple of
times cold went away without becoming an ear infection.
Once the ear is infected, I feel it is too late for homepathic
medicine to work.
